Mini Rant
Kids Versus Adults: It's funny to see how different people have grown up in relation to allergy awareness. Telling a young child that you have food allergies and can't eat something is no big deal. They want to understand. Telling adults that you have food allergies is like telling them you have cancer. They act all shocked and devastated. Truthfully, they're just clueless. They didn't grow up knowing people with allergies. They never have to think about it. During parties or making dinner for people, they put everything in bowls and throw the boxes with the nutrition facts away, making it impossible to know what's safe. Last week I was at a party where the mother of the host set up the food. There was a circle of allergy kids and diabetics who just couldn't eat; and the mom wondered why. And that's why it's so important to educate people about allergies.
